Defensive Pistol/Rifle

Defensive engagement, legal aspects of the engagement, psychological and physiologic changes, types of predators, and defensive mindset. Students will then go to the range and learn the fundamentals of defensive shooting.

Defensive Foundational

Defensive Pistol 1 – An introduction to the defensive engagement, this class covers legal aspects of the engagement, psychological and physiologic changes, types of predators, and defensive mindset. Students will then go to the range and learn the fundamentals of defensive shooting. Students are required to have their own pistol, holster, 3 magazines, mag pouch, 250 rounds of ammo, and eye and ear protection. The class is 4 hrs classroom and 4 hrs range.

Defensive Pistol 2 – This class is a follow-on to Defensive Pistol 1. Students spend 8 hrs on the range learning intermediate defensive tactics including multiple target engagement, moving then shooting, and failure drills. Students are required to have their own pistol, holster, 3 magazines, mag pouch, 500 rounds of ammo, and eye and ear protection. 8hrs.

Defensive Pistol 3 – This class is a follow on to Defensive Pistol 2 and is for the advanced student. Advanced defensive tactics such as moving while shooting, multiple elevation engagements, and support hand pistol manipulation. Depending on time of year, low light may included. Students are required to have their own pistol, holster, 3 magazines, mag pouch, 500 rounds of ammo, and eye and ear protection. 8 hrs.

Basic / Defensive Rifle 1 – This class is an amagomation of the Basic Rifle and Defensive Rifle 1 class. The class starts in the classroom with an overview of shooting a rifle safely, review of different types of rifles, and the fundamentals of shooting a rifle. The class then moves to the range for a focused introduction to the AR-15, including field stripping and cleaning, basic manual of arms, zeroing, and basic positional marksmanship. Students are required to have their own AR-15, minimum 2 magazines, approximately 200 rounds of ammo, eye and ear protection. A shooting mat is also recommended but not required for prone shooting. 8 hrs.

Defensive Rifle 1 – This class covers basic defensive tactics using the AR-15 rifle. Beginning students are encouraged to take Basic Rifle before Defensive Rifle. The class is focused on the use of the AR-15 platform but students may use any semi-automatic rifle. Students are required to have their own rifle, 3 magazines, magazine carrier, and 250 rounds of ammo. A rifle sling is highly recommended. Eye and ear protection is also required. 4 hrs.

Defensive Rifle 2 – This class picks up where Defensive Rifle 1 left off. Intermediate tactical skills such as multiple target engagements and shooting while moving will be covered. The class is focused on the use of the AR-15 platform but students may use any semi-automatic rifle. Students are required to have their own rifle, 3 magazines, magazine carrier, and 500 rounds of ammo. A rifle sling is highly recommended. Eye and ear protection is also required. 8 hrs.

Defensive Shotgun – This class is an introduction to the use of the shotgun as a defensive tool. Students will learn effective range, differences in ammo, emergency reloading, multiple target engagement, and moving then shooting. Students are required to bring their own pump or semi-automatic shotgun. Students should also bring 200 rounds of bird shot and eye and ear protection.

Defensive Skills Development

Defensive Skill Development Days – These 4 hr sessions will be instructor led. Exercises that were performed in one of the Defensive courses will be reviewed. The student will be able to practice the tasks that were taught in the class. Separate days are scheduled by weapon and level of competency. Students will need to bring their own equipment.
